I have long been fascinated by textiles, and this work represents some samples of my forays into printing, weaving, and dyeing fabric.
While living in the Kutch region of India on a fellowship grant, I learned techniques from local artisans: organic resist mud dye, wax resist prints, and indigo dyeing, as well as a little sewing and embroidery.
The Fabric Workshop & Museum is an internationally acclaimed, Philadelphia-based textile screenprinting studio. As an apprentice and later, program coordinator, I designed repeat patterns and hand printed them onto 1x12 meter cotton fabric.
Hand woven, sewn, and beaded bag, with textile created from salvaged fabrics. Designed with guidance from professional weaver Karin Schaller.
Hand dyed and woven scarf, created with handmade onionskin dye.
