Echo Changer: Combating the newsfeed echo chamber

Our networks tend to be reflections of ourselves. The people we like typically like the things we like. So our social media accounts and news feeds also tend to be extensions of our preferences. The Wall Street Journal reports that "Scholars worry that the social network can create “echo chambers,” where users see posts only from like-minded friends and media sources."
During a class on design of web-based products and services, I created a prototype for a way to combat this problem. Echo Changer is a simple browser plug-in that allows users be better informed of the facts, context and viewpoints around news items, by providing easy, one-touch access to more depth and breadth of information.
